Space Cannon spotlights also cover the historical location of the Alessandria Chamber of Commerce with light. To highlight Palazzo Asperia, which currently houses the exhibition "Dreams. Visions between Symbolism and Liberty †organised by Fondazione Palazzo Bricherasio with curator Vittorio Sgarbi, LED products were chosen: Athena, Maya3 and Nike8.
This category of products offer high benefits: LED technology is eco-compatible, it guarantees very low energy consumption and wipes out maintenance costs. Moreover, the service life of LEDs (approximately 100,000 hours of use) is higher than that of any other artificial light source. Due to the lack of UV and IR rays, spotlights with this technology could also be used in museums.
To accentuate the building's character, it was agreed to illuminate the windows with tones of blue, magenta and yellow. The lighting redesigns the perimeter of the windows and highlights the decoration on the beam. Athena projectors were used, equipped with a DMX unit for colour control, which allows endless shades to be obtained through mixing of the RGB channels. The control unit allows an instantaneous and accurate change between the chosen colour tones.
During the massive restoration work on this building in the town centre, attempts were made to preserve original and valuable features and readapt them to the new requirements. The ancient torch holders between the windows of the second floor were salvaged and restored and Nike8 projectors, with fixed white light, installed there. A further six Maya3 LED spotlights were recessed in the ground, at the base of the arch of the main entrance, to highlight its decoration and the coat of arms.
