Hamburg, 20 April 2007 - Space Cannon baptises with light the AIDAdiva mega cruise liner.
The greatest launch ever seen!
On the night of 20 April, almost three hundred thousand spectators were packed together on the banks of the Elbe in the port of Hamburg to watch, entranced, the launch of the new passenger ship AIDAdiva, accompanied by an exciting fireworks and lighting show. AIDAdiva belongs to Aida Cruises and can carry over 2000 passengers. The company expects the event to bring about a considerable increase in cruise traffic and tourism in the city of Hamburg.
Space Cannon contributed with its spotlights to making the christening of this ship unique with a spectacular show created by the lighting designer Gert Hof, known worldwide for his lighting and firework displays and music, settings for the most important international events. The ship was immersed in light, in a triumph of colour. The light beams projected towards the sky for a height of many kilometres were visible from a considerable distance.
The lighting show involved the use of 200 Space Cannon 8000W IREOS luminaires. Ireos robotic spotlights are fitted with xenon lamps and incorporate a patented colour change system with dichroic filters. These mobile head spotlights enable dynamic computerised lighting effects to be created and have very high light output and a wide range of colour shades. The integrated on-board computer allows different types of shows to be stored in the memory automatically.
